Hello world! Let’s talk about Korean side dishes, also known as Banchan.
Koreans are known for their delectable side dishes that they make to pair with their foods, often times it comes in with a small kick of spiciness as well. Now if you’re not a fan of spiciness then you can opt to not put in the spices for it and it still comes out just as flavorful. I also met someone who had allergies to certain ingredients so I opted to change up my ingredients a little and it still comes out really good.
Now in terms of what side dishes there are, there are a large variety of side dishes that Koreans make.
Some of the traditional side dishes are:
- Kongamul Muchim or Seasoned Soybean Sprouts
- Sigeumchi Namul or Seasoned Spinach
- Oi Muchim or Spicy Cucumber Salad
- Hobak Bokkeum or Sir-fried Zucchini
- Gaji Namul or Steamed Eggplants
- Sukju Namul or Seasoned Bean Sprouts
- Oi Bokkeum or Stir-fried Cucumbers
- Doraji Namul or Seasoned Daikon Raddish
- Mu Saengchae or Spicy Radish Salad
- Gamja Jorim or Braised Potatoes
- Putbaechu Doenjang Muchim or Seasoned Young Cabbage
- Gosari Namul or Fernbrake
- Gaji Bokkeum or Stir-Fried Eggplants
- Mu Saengchae or Sweet and Sour Radish Salad
- Kimchi
While some of the more non-traditional dishes that can also be made are:
- Spicy Korean Cake
- Fried Zucchini
- Crispy Mushrooms
- Coleslaw
- Macaroni Salad
- Tuna Pancakes
- Sesame Broccoli
- Seasoned Vienna Sausages
Of course there are more side dishes out there available, with many cultures blending together, the possibilities are endless!
